Strip steels

Precision strip steel is a unique product for high-technology applications. Very few materials offer so many properties in so many combinations. The products below are only a few examples from our full range:

Saw steel

Bandsaw steel for the wood industry must be stampable, or it must allow the teeth to be set and tipped with stellite. The steel must have very high fatigue, strength and wear resistance, together with good elasticity and toughness. The cleanliness of the raw material, a carefully controlled process and heat treatment give the bandsaw steel produced at Uddeholm’s strip mill the right combination of hardness, toughness and formability.

Valve steel

A flapper valve that controls the gas flow in a compressor must be flat, have a good surface finish and withstand millions of load cycles. The steel must also be exceptionally clean and free of harmful inclusions.
The voestalpine Precision Strip plant produces valve steel with optimum properties for refrigeration and freezer equipment, as well as for heat pumps and air conditioners.

Other strip steels
The voestalpine Precision Strip plant also produces plain or alloyed carbon steel and martensitic stainless cold-rolled strip for springs, accordion reeds, frame-saw and bandsaw strip, and various machine parts.

Paper and printing industry

Coater, creping and printing doctor blades

The voestalpine Precision Strip plant produces finished products for the paper and printing industry. Accurate straightness and flatness are the two most important criteria for optimum productivity.

By making all of these doctor blades only from the unique steel grades we produce ourselves, we can consistently maintain high quality in carbon, stainless and tool steel.

Our doctor blades meet the exact requirements of today’s customers worldwide. Our newer wear-resistant, long-life blades, developed from our own tool steel grades, are doing particularly well. They let customers raise productivity and improve the quality of paper and print. The longer the blades last, the less time is spent changing them. For printers, long-life grades with a fine microstructure make it possible to use lower pressure on the expensive plate cylinder when removing excess ink.

Coater and creping doctor blades made from our newer long-life materials have proved useful for paper mills with high operating costs, because they reduce downtime and improve the composition and quality of the paper.
